“Magic box”,  “hideaway office”, “home office”………..whatever you choose to call it, I call this magnificent iconic piece of mid century furniture, “Alexander” – yes he’s great, but he would also be an ideal assistant if you’re working from home!
 
Inspired by the original designers, Mummenthaler and Meier, and manufactured circa 1950 – 1960 by London based Newcraft Ltd, this superb cabinet unfolds to reveal a complete office workspace, with a desktop that slides out and extends to 1160mm wide, two wide drawers, countless pigeon holes, shelves, suspension file area and an original adjustable lamp.
 
The whole piece has been given a fab and funky makeover.  The interior has been painted in Wise Owl enamel, the back panels have been decoupaged with a rich geometric deep blue pattern and sealed for protection, and the original shelves have been sanded and treated with hemp oil and furniture wax to bring out the original colour and grain.  
 
Once your working day is over, close the doors and feast your eyes on the stunning black and blue cabinet, painted in jet black enamel, which is a hard wearing satin finish and Cornish Milk paint colour Squid, a deep blue matt finish.  Who would have thought that black and blue could be so attractive!  Add to this the coolest of pull handles - an octopus, oh yes, a huge gold and bronze painted octopus!!!  
 
This unique statement piece of furniture proves that there’s no need to sacrifice style for function when, I’m sure you will agree,  this stunning home office shows that you can have both.
